The first Grand Prix of the year is just round the corner!
as a preview,I will treat you with a dip into my vast archive,a countdown from 1900 till 2007
ten days for a houndred years...

One of the earliest cars I've painted,is this Napier from 1904,driven by S.F.Edge. like a big tractor and about as fast. oil on panel 18 x 30" sold


I could tell you about the city to city races,the rough,dusty roads,the many dangers...
but there are allready lots of books and web pages,written by far better writers,
suffice to say that ever since the car was invented,man wanted to race them... and some to paint them!

Vincenzo Lancia with his Fiat breaking down during the French grand Prix in 1907.tried to paint this as the impressionists would have seen these cars.

i must admit these F2 cars i'm painting are pure self indulgent i can't imagine anybody being remotely interested in these sort of cars,but i grew up with these and love'm

so for what it's worth,
Marc Surer,March 792 BMW, jumping the Nurburgring.
He went on to become the 1997 F2 Champion winning it on the last lap of the last race!

aah the sun is shining the daffodils popped up,

spring is round the corner,yet again!

last week was tough going,everybody around here is sniffering with flu,i wasn't too bad,but we got through it,with some nice BMW paintings.I will try a few more beemers next week and than...it is the big build up for the start of the F1 season!

Continuing the BMW theme,here is Bruno Giacomelli in the BMW junior March,
this combination dominated the F2 scene in the late 70's
I grew up with these cars and love the boxy shapes with those big blunt noses.
